Parrillas en Recoleta: dónde comer un gran asado a pasos del Alvear Published on 08/19/2026 by Carlos

Steakhouses in Recoleta: where to eat a great asado steps away from the Alvear

Here at alturas, we’re well aware that Recoleta isn’t Palermo—you won’t find the same concentration of steakhouses here as you do on Guatemala or Honduras streets, nor will you find those blocks in the SoHo neighborhood packed with tourists standing in long lines outside restaurants. However, the neighborhood has its own culinary character.

In this area, the meat ritual is experienced differently; whether in a five-star hotel restaurant, a classic neighborhood tavern with old-school waiters, or some avant-garde spot that goes completely unnoticed from the sidewalk.

But what truly saves the picture is the location. I mean, if you stay at the Alvear Palace, the Four Seasons, or some boutique hotel in the surrounding area, you have the best steakhouses in the city no less than a 15-minute walk away.

And for decades, thinking of Recoleta meant imagining literary cafes and elegant tea salons; but the steakhouse, on the other hand, seemed to be the exclusive heritage of other corners of the city.

However, this perception has changed drastically in the last fifteen years, because the local steak restaurants compete side by side with the big names in Palermo and, in fact, have even managed to surpass the experience of the most acclaimed “temples.” So, without further ado, stay to discover the best parrillas in Recoleta.

Five-star barbecue: the grills of the grand hotels

The Alvear Grill, the palace's steakhouse

For a true connoisseur, the historic Alvear Palace needs little introduction. This place has been a quintessential refuge for royalty, presidents, and even movie stars.

What perhaps not many know is that within its spaces operates the Alvear Grill, a wood-fired steakhouse that has managed to maintain the hotel's elegance and standard without falling into a stiff sophistication.

As soon as you walk in, you notice the brazier with juicy cuts of meat roasting over the heat of quebracho and espinillo wood, while the impeccable waiters naturally explain the origin of each cut.

You should keep in mind that if you like eating at the counter in front of the fire, it is best to arrive early, as reservations are not accepted for that area. However, for tables, you must do so by phone at +54 11 4808 2100.

Regarding the menu, you will see that it is not extensive, but it focuses on the most select and well-executed cuts of meat, accompanied by classic side dishes that do not seek to overshadow the true protagonist.

Personally, I believe that the experience of eating a good sirloin steak in a French-style atmosphere is a luxury that not many can afford. And if you are also staying at the hotel, you have the perfect life; you just take the elevator, cross the door, and you are already in steak heaven. So come and enjoy it.

Elena, the steakhouse overlooking the world

Now, just a few blocks from the Alvear Palace, at 1086 Posadas Street (inside the Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires), is Elena, a steakhouse that ranks 54th in the prestigious ranking “World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants 2026”

Under the direction of executive chef Juan Gaffuri and chef Nicolás Díaz Rosáenz, their menu focuses on dry-aging techniques, letting the cuts rest for up to 70 days in climate-controlled chambers before going to the grill.

The living room looks impressive, with its double-height ceiling, spectacular glass dome, and fully open kitchen. The venue’s name pays tribute to the aristocrat Elena Peña Unzué, who received the iconic mansion adjacent to this location as a wedding gift in the early 20th century.

But turning the historical page, we can mention that one of the favorite dishes here is the Argentine Holstein beef strip loin; and to accompany this, like all the cuts, sommelier Dulce Long offers diners a wine list with more than 200 domestic labels that are renewed every six months.

Therefore, Elena is the safe choice for having both a business lunch and an unforgettable dinner. It is open every day from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (for breakfast); lunch starts from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and dinner runs from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Reservations can be made by phone at +54 11 4321 1200.

Steakies with their own stamp: where the fire has a signature

Fervor, the steakhouse Hollywood already knows

About five blocks from the Recoleta cemetery, at 1519 Posadas Street, Fervor has been operating since 2008. This project was the big venture of brothers Alejo, Tomás, and Martín Waisman. Alejo is the chef who, having recently arrived from France, decided to open a restaurant that would combine the flavors of the countryside and the sea, right in the middle of the historic agricultural conflict of that same year.

Today, this risky move has paid off, as the venue's popularity is such that it has become a favorite among Hollywood stars like Anya Taylor-Joy and even the Foo Fighters themselves when they visit Buenos Aires.

The atmosphere it evokes is that of a classic Buenos Aires bistro with black-and-white checkerboard floors, tables dressed in white tablecloths, red leather-upholstered armchairs, and professional waiters attired in aprons and vests.

For its part, the meat looks radiant thanks to its traditional-style dry-aging process with the bone in. However, the most interesting part is the fish section, which deserves special attention, as it is bought directly from the Mar del Plata port dock, so freshness is the order of the day, managing to offer a varied menu that includes swordfish and ratfish.

Another highlight is that the bread basket is homemade (100%), and at the entrance you’re greeted with a complimentary glass of either sparkling wine or an Aperol Spritz. Once you’ve enjoyed that welcome drink, order the provoleta with sun-dried tomatoes, arugula, and red onion; I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s one of the best in the city.

If you want to plan a special moment, Fervor restaurant is open every day for lunch from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and for dinner from Sunday to Thursday from 7:30 PM to 12:00 AM, extending until 1:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. The phone number to make reservations is +54 11 4804 4944.

Rufino, the well-kept secret of the underground

Surely you have passed by 465 Quintana Street, and you wouldn't even dream in your wildest dreams that hidden in the basement of the refined Hotel Mío is a steakhouse that goes completely unnoticed. It's called Rufino, and it has long been on the radar of mystery enthusiasts who know how to eat well.

With Chef Agustín Brañas at the helm, the menu gives center stage to grilled meats and vegetables. This concept strikes a delicious balance between the essence of the classic and the contemporary twist that is evident in the presentation of each dish.

The venue has an intimate atmosphere, almost like a speakeasy, filled with dim lights and a magnificent signature cocktail bar that coexists perfectly with the warmth of the embers.

If these details have piqued your curiosity about being at a quasi-clandestine steakhouse, Rufino is open from Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; on Fridays and Saturdays it closes a little later. For more information, call +54 11 6432 4264.

The classic route: meat without protocol on Avenida Santa Fe

Aires Criollos, the Creole from Santa Fe and Callao

As you can see, not all steakhouse grilling in Recoleta scatters smoke among the marble of five-star hotels or against walls with aristocratic touches. Along Avenida Santa Fe are located some of the steakhouses that have managed to be a true lifesaver for both the lifelong resident and the tourist who, after so much walking, needs to eat well and without so much protocol.

Located at 1773, just a few meters from the intersection with Callao Avenue, you’ll find the Aires Criollos restaurant, with its striking traditional style, featuring abundant wooden details, horse-themed decorations, and a deliciously tempting grill that’s visible from the street.

The restaurant is open every day of the week, from 12:00 to 00:00. Its menu is extensive, but it guarantees good cuts of meat, some homemade pastas, grilled fish, and typical local desserts. Although it is not gourmet cuisine, the quality of the ingredients more than delivers.

Buenos Aires Grill, the firewood of the shopping mall

If you move three blocks from Aires Criollos, at number 1876 you will come across Buenos Aires Grill; a neighborhood wood-fired steakhouse that will not disappoint you either in its atmosphere or in the service you will receive.

It is open every day from 07:00 to 01:00 h. And its location is ideal for those who are walking around the shopping area. It may not be the most sophisticated steakhouse in the area, but it is an absolute go-to when your body asks for a good cut of meat without so many complications.

How to choose your barbecue according to the occasion

If you are in Recoleta for work and need to organize a business dinner, both Elena and the Alvear Grill are winning options. Both operate within the facilities of 5-star hotels, so you will be guaranteed impeccable service and a professional-quality wine list.

On the other hand, if you are traveling alone or with friends and looking for a more relaxed experience, Fervor is the place to be, since it has a more vibrant energy accompanied by good music and a grill with seafood ingredients that are a delight.

Now, if the plan is to have a date or a romantic dinner, Rufino restaurant brings out that special advantage of being more hidden, gifting you a more intimate evening with its dim lighting and a super-reserved atmosphere.

Regarding the cuts, the sirloin strip steak remains the undisputed king in all the steakhouses in Recoleta. However, I suggest stepping out of your comfort zone and trying the skirt steak at Fervor, as well as the sweetbreads at Aires Criollos and the dry-aged ribeye at Elena. And if you go to the Alvear Grill, ask them to recommend the cut of the day, since the master grilling chef always keeps an ace up his sleeve that you won't see on the printed menu.
