Hotels near the bus terminals in Buenos Aires: Retiro, Liniers, and Constitución

Traveling to Buenos Aires by long-distance bus from afar almost always means getting off at the Retiro, Liniers, or Constitución terminals. And, let's be honest, even though you often have time to spare, you actually have to wait a couple of hours between connections, or perhaps you arrive at your destination in the middle of the night.

And no matter how much you want to, staying at the terminal to kill time is a bad deal; the seats are uncomfortable, the noise is constant, and sleeping on the floor is the worst-case scenario. So love hotels near bus terminals are everything you need to salvage the wait.

Thinking of your convenience, I have prepared this guide that you will surely consult more than once. So forget about overpriced hotels or places you arrive at after an endless taxi ride. Here I give you a detailed map with the exact coordinates, estimated prices, schedules, and the amenities they can offer you. Just keep reading.

When the clock is ticking and you need a straightforward place

As is well known, the main transport terminals in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires have their own ecosystem of accommodations for long-distance travelers. This includes hourly hotels for layovers between connections and short-stay motels that understand what someone arriving with a small suitcase and a backpack really needs.

The key to all of this is to eliminate any complications, by knowing which one is a ten-minute walk away from you and which one forces you to take some other form of transportation.

Retiro: privacy steps away from the terminal

Retiro terminal is not only one of the largest in the country, but also the one with the highest passenger traffic. Fortunately, the downtown area of the neighborhood and its surroundings offer everything, including some discreet options for those who prefer not to run around so much.

Hotel Mónaco – Dr. Ricardo Rojas 469, Retiro

  • On foot: It takes about 10 minutes to walk along Av. Dr. José María Ramos Mejía to Dr. Ricardo Rojas.
  • Buses: Lines 7, 33, and 143 drop you off at Ricardo Rojas, which is a couple of minutes away from the hotel.

One of the great advantages of the Monaco is that it’s open 24 hours a day, so it’s a real lifesaver if your bus breaks down in the middle of the night. It offers 2- and 3-hour stays, as well as the option to stay overnight (subject to availability).

The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable TV, a Bluetooth connection for music, and a minibar. If you need something more sophisticated, the higher categories offer a private jacuzzi or Scottish shower.

One important detail is that they offer free parking (something almost impossible to find in the area) and accept cash, credit cards, and Mercado Pago. It’s an LGBT-friendly venue, and you can go without making a reservation. Since there’s both a pedestrian entrance and an entrance through the parking garage, discretion is 100% guaranteed.

Liniers and Mataderos: The West Has Strong Options

The Liniers terminal is located at the edge of the capital, in an area that many associate more with cattle trading and heavy cargo traffic than with lodging. However, the love hotels located in Liniers and Mataderos are the most practical for those coming from the west or the conurbation and who don't feel like crossing the entire city.

Liniers Palace Hotel – Madero 149, Liniers

  • Walking: It's just three blocks down Madero Street from General Paz Avenue.

This hotel is located just steps from the terminal, is open 24 hours a day, and offers 3-hour blocks every day. If you need to spend the night, overnight stays are available from Sunday to Thursday, starting between 21:00 and 01:00; on Fridays and Saturdays at 03:00, always extending until 13:00 the following day. Breakfast for two is included free of charge, something few hotels offer nowadays.

The rooms feature air conditioning, an LED TV, Wi-Fi, and a minibar, and some include a whirlpool tub. Rates for standard suites range from $28,000, while rates for the deluxe suites go up to $33,000.

On their official website, they often post promotions offering a 10% discount if you pay for your stay online. They accept cash, credit cards, Mercado Pago, and bank transfers.

A very specific detail about the Faraón hotel is that it allows up to four people in the standard rooms and up to six in the superior categories (note that for overnight stays the limit is still two people).

If you spend the entire night, the rate includes breakfast, and you can pay with cash, cards, or Mercado Pago. The average costs are not published on their website, so you will need to contact them by phone before dropping by.

How to arrive without drawing attention

From the Retiro terminal, the Hotel Mónaco is about a ten-minute walk. You just cross the square, take Dr. Ricardo Rojas street, and you are there. But if you prefer to avoid walking while lugging your suitcase around, bus lines 7, 33, and 143 drop you off two minutes from the door.

From Liniers, both the Palace and Faraón hotels are just three blocks from the terminal, so you can easily walk there. To go to Hotel Edén in Mataderos, you can take lines 92 or 106 which run along Av. Rivadavia; get off at Guaminí and walk two blocks. It's a ten-minute trip, or fifteen if traffic is heavy.

From Constitución terminal you can get to the Plus Hotel by taking lines 102, 168, 151, 98 or 96, and getting off at Av. Independencia. The Aquarium is seven minutes away taking the 67 or 51 along Av. Brasil. Meanwhile, the Origen and El Velero hotels share the same route of lines 51, 4, 97 and 101 that go along Av. Pavón, and you arrive in five minutes.

Now then, if you are coming from another terminal and need to cross the city, keep in mind that subway line C connects the Retiro terminal directly with Constitución in barely twenty minutes. And to go west, the buses that travel along the Juan B. Justo Avenue Metrobús are the best option to connect downtown with the Liniers terminal.

FAQ

Do you need to book in advance?

It is not mandatory in any of the suggested places. However, if you arrive on a Friday or Saturday night, you can contact them to check availability and thus save yourself the wait.

How long does a shift last and what happens if I run out of time?

This depends on the hotel. Some offer 1, 2, 3, and 4-hour shifts. If you run out of time, most will charge you for an extra hour or automatically move you to the next shift. Therefore, if you aren't sure how long you're going to take, ask for a 3-hour shift; you might pay a little more, but it takes the pressure of the schedule off of you.

Can I stay overnight if the bus drops me off in the early morning hours?

Yes, all the hotels mentioned in the list offer overnight stays. Check the one that suits you best and keep in mind the schedules they offer. In case you arrive before the available time, you can ask for a long shift and combine it with the entire night.

Can I enter with a suitcase or backpack?

Yes, there is no problem with this. At the reception, they will keep your suitcase if you require it, or you can simply take it to your room. Now, if you are coming with a large suitcase, let them know at the entrance so they can assign you a more spacious room.

Do you accept cash or only card?

All the hotels on this list accept cash. In addition, they also accept debit cards, credit cards, and even Mercado Pago. Even the Liniers Palace accepts bank transfers.
