Love hotels near the coach stations in Buenos Aires: Retiro, Liniers and Constitución

Travelling to Buenos Aires by coach from afar almost always means getting off at the Retiro, Liniers or Constitución terminals. And, let's be honest, even though you often have time to spare, you actually have to wait a couple of hours between connections, or perhaps you arrive at your destination in the middle of the night.

And no matter how much you might want to, staying at the terminal to pass the time is no good; the seats are uncomfortable, the noise is constant and sleeping on the floor is the worst-case scenario. So love hotels near bus terminals are everything you need to save the wait.

Thinking of your comfort, I've prepared this guide that you're sure to consult more than once. So forget about outrageously expensive hotels or places you only reach after an endless taxi ride. Here I give you a detailed map with exact coordinates, estimated prices, opening hours and the amenities they can offer you. Just read on.

When the clock is ticking and you need somewhere no-nonsense

As is well known, the main transport terminals in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires have their own ecosystem of accommodation for long-distance travellers. This includes hourly hotels for waits between connections and short-stay motels that understand what someone arriving with a small suitcase and a backpack really needs.

The key to all this is to eliminate any complication, by knowing which of them is a ten-minute walk away and which forces you to take some other transport.

Retiro: privacy metres from the terminal

Retiro terminal is not only one of the largest in the country, but also the one with the highest passenger traffic. Fortunately, the central area of the neighbourhood and its surroundings offer everything, including some discreet options for those who prefer not to wander around too much.

Hotel Mónaco – Dr. Ricardo Rojas 469, Retiro

  • Walking: You'll arrive in about 10 minutes walking along Av. Dr. José María Ramos Mejía to Dr. Ricardo Rojas.
  • Buses: Routes 7, 33 and 143 drop you off on Ricardo Rojas, which is a couple of minutes from the hotel.

One of the great advantages of El Mónaco is that it is open 24 hours a day, making it a true lifesaver if your coach drops you off in the early hours of the morning. It offers 2- and 3-hour shifts, as well as an overnight option (subject to availability).

The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable TV, a Bluetooth connection for music and a minibar. If you need something more sophisticated, the higher categories offer a private jacuzzi or Scottish shower.

One important detail is that they offer free parking (something almost impossible to find in this area) and accept cash, cards and Mercado Pago. It’s an LGBT-friendly venue and you can pop in without booking. As there is both a pedestrian entrance and access via the car park, discretion is 100% guaranteed.

Liniers and Mataderos: the west has solid options

The Liniers bus station is on the edge of the capital, in an area that many associate more with livestock trading and heavy freight traffic than with accommodation. However, the love hotels located in Liniers and Mataderos are the most practical for those coming from the west or the conurbano and who don't fancy crossing the entire city.

Liniers Palace Hotel – Madero 149, Liniers

  • Walking: It's just three blocks down Madero Street from General Paz Avenue.

This hotel is located a short walk from the terminal, is open 24 hours a day and offers 3-hour slots every day. If you need to spend the night, overnight stays are available from Sunday to Thursday, starting between 21:00 and 01:00; on Fridays and Saturdays from 03:00, always extending until 13:00 the following day. Breakfast for two is included free of charge, something that few hotels offer nowadays.

The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, an LED TV, Wi-Fi and a minibar, and some feature a whirlpool bath. Rates for standard suites range from $28,000, whilst those for the special suites go up to $33,000.

On their official website, they often run promotions offering a 10% discount if you pay for your stay online. They accept cash, cards, Mercado Pago and bank transfers.

A very particular feature of the Hotel Faraón is that it allows up to four people in standard rooms and up to six in the higher categories (mind you, the overnight limit is still two people).

If you stay the entire night, the rate includes breakfast, and you can pay with cash, cards or Mercado Pago. Average costs are not published on their website, so you will need to contact them by phone before heading over.

How to arrive without drawing attention

From Retiro bus station, the Hotel Mónaco is about a ten-minute walk. You just cross the square, head down Calle Dr. Ricardo Rojas and you are there. But if you prefer to avoid lugging your suitcase around, routes 7, 33 and 143 drop you off two minutes from the door.

From Liniers, both the Palace and the Faraón hotels are just three blocks from the bus station, so you can easily walk there. To get to the Hotel Edén in Mataderos, you can catch the 92 or 106 bus lines which go along Av. Rivadavia; you get off at Guaminí and walk two blocks. It's a ten-minute journey, or fifteen if the traffic is heavy.

From Constitución terminal you can get to the Plus Hotel by taking routes 102, 168, 151, 98 or 96, getting off at Av. Independencia. The Aquarium is seven minutes away by taking the 67 or 51 along Av. Brasil. Meanwhile, the Origen hotel and El Velero share the same route on lines 51, 4, 97 and 101 which run along Av. Pavón, and you will arrive in five minutes.

Now then, if you are coming from another terminal and need to cross the city, bear in mind that the C line of the underground links Retiro terminal with Constitución directly, in barely twenty minutes. And to head west, the buses that go along the Juan B. Justo Avenue Metrobus are the best option to connect the centre with Liniers terminal.

FAQ

Do you need to book in advance?

It is not mandatory in any of the suggested places. However, if you arrive on a Friday or Saturday night, you can contact them to check availability and thereby save yourself the wait.

How long does a shift last and what happens if I run out of time?

This depends on the hotel. Some offer shifts of 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours. If you run out of time, most will charge you for an extra hour or automatically move you on to the next shift. So, if you're not sure how long you're going to take, ask for a 3-hour shift; you might pay a bit more, but it takes the pressure of the clock off you.

Can you stay overnight if the coach drops me off in the early hours?

Yes, all the hotels mentioned in the list offer overnight stays. Check the one that suits you best and bear in mind the times they offer. In case you arrive before the permitted time, you can ask for a long session and combine it with the whole night.

Can I enter with a suitcase or rucksack?

Yes, there's no problem with this. At reception they'll look after your case if you wish, or you can simply take it to your room. Now, if you're coming with a large case, let them know at the entrance so they can allocate you a more spacious room.

Do you accept cash or card only?

All the hotels on this list accept cash. Furthermore, they also accept debit cards, credit cards and even Mercado Pago. Even the Liniers Palace accepts bank transfers.

This guide to love hotels near bus terminals is updated with information circulating on social networks and the official websites of each establishment. Prices may vary, so before setting off, a WhatsApp message or a quick call will confirm everything. Have a good trip and an even better encounter.
