The "Personal Brand" and its importance. What it is a lot.
Today "Personal Branding" can make the difference. Whether you want to offer your services to new clients, or you want to build loyalty with the ones you already have, the idea of "personal branding" is today a concept of the utmost importance in all areas of human activity and especially in personal relationships. It is never indifferent.
Let's see what it's all about:
It is a matter of showing why choosing us is the best thing our potential employer or client can do, and in doing so we bring into play the most important assets we possess: our name, our skills and knowledge, and our reputation.
That is what we must put first when we want to make ourselves known, telling the world that we exist and how much we are worth. Personal branding is nothing more and nothing less than the mark we leave on others. Put a little more pretentiously, it is about defining our purpose and transcending what we do with what we do on other people. Not easy, it seems.
And how to create a brand?
Vilma Núñez, a great reference in Spanish marketing, advises following these steps to create a robust and healthy personal brand. You have to ask yourself a few questions:
*First, define the name that the personal brand will have; it can be first name only or + surname, or a fantasy name.
*Then, choose the keywords that will define the personal brand of the professional or enterprise.
*A message that will transmit that personal brand must be created. For example, in the case of an escort, a value proposition: "A service of excellence, perfect for the most demanding gentlemen, that will make you come back very soon and recommend me".
*We must consider which values will be proclaimed, those that must be present in the design of the new badge. For example: reliability, professionalism, experience, discretion.
*It is very important the tone of communication to be used, whether it will be formal or colloquial. We recommend the latter, but without being vulgar.
And don't forget that...
*It is essential to carefully process the image and design that the brand will have (fonts, logos, colours, etc.) Don't leave it in the hands of amateurs, or resort to the "nephew/niece manager" that is never missing (that guy/girl relative or acquaintance who is "handy" with design and technology). As soon as you can, turn to image professionals, because it is an investment in yourself!
*It is necessary to select the channels where your personal brand will circulate. Social networks, platforms and contact sites, forums, mails, etc. They can be all of them or some of them; it is essential to define that.
*You should create an editorial calendar to define the actions to be carried out and that everything has an order, especially if you plan to add services or travel. If you are going to promote your personal brand on social networks, the best thing to do is to have a calendar of content to publish periodically there.
*Define special actions, e.g. videos, event attendance, travel, photo productions, and see which channels to show them on.
The fundamental tool of branding: Storytelling.
It is telling your story in an interesting, coherent, careful way, if possible, written or at least revised by a professional writer. Here is an example from a colleague, Ashly.
The importance of storytelling in brand building is simply EVERYTHING. And we are not exaggerating. Humans have been telling stories since we appeared on the face of the earth, and everything that exists or will exist has been created by telling a story.
We define storytelling as the technique and skill of telling a peculiar story about a person, an organisation or a family.
It is to construct a witty narrative that appeals to both the reality and the imagination of the listener or reader, capable of conveying their concerns and worries, as well as their ideas and achievements.
To craft this kind of storytelling requires sensitivity, skill and a rich expressive language. And all to achieve empathy: to be honest with oneself, to be at one with the audience and, above all, to show passion for what we do.
The purpose of Storytelling applied to personal branding is:
*To make known
*Help and explain
*Preserve
*And especially captivate. This is the only way for personal brands and the stories behind them to remain fixed in people's memories.
Therefore, there is nothing better than practising good storytelling to create a solid, memorable and likeable image that identifies you and attracts customers who will then become enthusiastic recommenders.
