THE WORLD'S LARGEST SEX SHOP IS WAITING FOR YOU IN JAPAN!

Akihabara, a populous neighbourhood in Tokyo, is said to be the most "Otaku of the city. Remember that fans of the typical expressions of Japanese comics that fascinate the world are called "otaku". It is, but that's not the only thing that characterises it. The biggest sex shop in Japan (and the world) is also there.

Most of the shops there are dedicated to the sale of electronic devices, computers and accessories. And of course, audiovisual entertainment, such as anime, manga and video games. Most of them are on Chuodori Avenue, the main street in the neighbourhood. Tourists tend to visit famous name shops as much as the speciality shops or the lower-priced ones a little further afield. Akihabara is also known for being home to the world's first fully dedicated robotics shop - and the world's largest sex shop!

The supermarket of pleasure

That's what they call the mega-store "M's Pop Life. It is also called "Paradise of sexuality", or the "Cathedral of Kinky culture" (by "kinky" we mean unorthodox, imaginative and daring sexual behaviour. It is deeply rooted in Japan)

They happen to be none other than 7 floors! dedicated to everything you can imagine in the sex industry. And what you can't even imagine as well.

This giant sex shop receives around 1,500 visitors a day. The shop first opened in the Ueno district in 2001 and soon moved to Akihabara. Since then, it has opened seven branches, including two more in various Tokyo neighbourhoods. But the first shop is a tourist attraction in the Japanese capital. It rightly attracts the curious from all over the country, and travellers visiting Japan from all over the world.

Flats and more pleasure flats

The themes and products are divided into floors. That is to say that the distribution of its physical space is like that of a department store, but very particular, because in addition to the classic sex shop items, there are rarities and exoticisms for all tastes. Even for the most extreme.

  • On the first floor: Fake vaginas and fake anuses stand out, promising great and very pleasurable experiences. In addition, we find fake throats and vulvas in what look like perfume bottles or deodorant containers. And products that stand out are supposedly exact recreations of the orifices of some of the famous porn actresses. Some said it was like the famous Madame Tussauds wax museum, but only of porn stars' genitals. And of course, inflatables of all kinds.
  • On the first floor: Whips, masks, gags, and scary-looking vibrators hog the space, including some that look like mixtures of dildo, catapult, and flight simulator. Everything you need, and more, for the "domination services. Many pleasure machines that look more like instruments of torture, and all the elements for lovers of "hard sex" are available. The variety of harnesses can seem endless.
  • There are three floors dedicated to all things video. It's hard not to find something to suit your fantasies in the world's biggest sex shop, whatever they may be - they even sell underwear used in famous porn movies! There are also posters of the industry's biggest stars and assorted memorabilia.
  • The 4th floor has everything you need for erotic cosplay: classic nurses' or schoolgirls' uniforms, lots of mini-skirts and cat-like bodysuits, as well as costumes of famous characters from films, series and comics, not only Japanese.
  • On the third floor there is more glamour, with women's lingerie rooms. More elegance, subtlety and distinction, without whips or restraints. Exciting delicacy for those who like it. And we find many objects designed for soft sex. Also board games, sex dice, dolls with lustful shapes, and aphrodisiac pills. There are taurine, viagra, ginseng, and "unicorn horn" (whatever that is). And if you want lubricating gels, there are enough to fill several Olympic swimming pools. As well as tons of condoms: flavoured, rainbow flag, transparent or luminous, edible, XXL, XS and for women.

It is the sex shop The place, like all Japanese sex shops, has a rather naive and colourfully pop appearance. It is clean, tidy and bright (a far cry from the dreariness found in other latitudes for the same category). It could be a department store in the style of El Corte Inglés or Falabella, and in a way it is, but of (sometimes very extreme) sex nestled in the geekiest part of the Japanese capital.

When we cross the small green entrance gate, a new world is presented to us. A world that is certainly not for everyone, but where everyone will find something to excite them.
